Erica Wark is the ultimate girl's girl, the kind of person you wish was your best friend IRL (and is the kind of friend who lets you raid her closet from time to time). I've been following her style journey for the past few years via her countless television appearances on shows like The Marilyn Denis Show and The Social, and also on her jaw-dropping instagram account where her boho-chic wardrobe and sweet personality come to life!
As a style expert, Erica is not only always on trend, but also 100% approachable and down-to-earth. A rare combo in this business, I admire her for her fashion choices and her kindness. I had the pleasure of working with her a few years back and one thing that stood out to me was her effortless attention to detail. Her thoughts were so organized, and her responses always so punctual...surely she has some great organizational tools to share with the rest of us right? Perhaps a great notebook in her life? Find out about Erica's #WriteStyle below!
EW: Ooooo... that's a tough one. I've always loved the quote by Lauren Hutton: "Fashion is what you're offered four times a year by designers; style is what you choose." I really couldn't agree with this more. It's the individual who creates style; wearing it in a way that makes them feel happy. That's what fashion is meant to do!
EW: I must admit I'm a bit of a chameleon. My day to day style is fairly basic - jeans and a tee, a great pair of sneakers and a moto jacket. But I also love to dress up: printed shifts, romantic lace, off the shoulder, you name it! I'm lucky enough that with my job, I get to change things up often!
EW: Probably my Mackage crossbody. It packs all the essentials, is perfect for travel and it's Canadian!
EW: Either at studio, my office, even at the mall! I bring my notepad everywhere I go - I'm old school - I love to write and love the feeling of crossing things off lists!
EW: Probably a bit of everything! Being self-employed, I'm always juggling multiple projects so I'll often make lists of tasks that are ongoing, notes of items that clients need or are looking for, model info for TV segments, even some doodling here and there when I'm brainstorming!
EW: Nay - you should have just as much fun with your notebooks as you do your wardrobe!
Erica's advice is just as on trend as her fabulous wardrobe! Don't forget it! Write down all of her notes and a few of your own in our new Metallic Gold "Blogger Breakfast" notebook...shop for it here! Big thanks to Erica for her continued support. Little fun fact for you all, when I was a fresh-faced 19 yr-old fashion student, I got the internship of a lifetime with Peter Papapetrou on the set of one of his past tv shows. It was short-lived (my internship I mean- the show was a big success!) but the impression he left on me would last forever. Apart from being THE nicest guy, Peter is a master at what he does. You probably know and love him as an on-air style expert for shows like "The Marilyn Denis Show," but did you also know that he's a trained fashion designer, a talented illustrator, and a world-renowned fashion stylist?!
So how does he balance it all and still make it all look so effortless and cool? Peter recently dished out some note-worthy advice, including a glimpse into his personal wardrobe and how he uses a good notebook to stay on top of his busy schedule. I think Peter is one of the best (and incredibly kind-hearted) in this business, but don't take my word for it, find out for yourself by following his amazing work and life on instagram and twitter!
PP: "Fashion is for everyone style is for those who know who they are."
PP: Modern classic staples, lots of runners and sunglasses. Everything is hung on white wooden hangers.
PP: Confidence... if you mean fashion item..It would be a great pair of shades.
PP: During meetings, fittings, research and brainstorming. There's something to be said about writing things down.
PP: Lots of quick illustrations, and if someone could send me a translator I'd be able to read what I wrote. I wish I could write as fast as my mind thinks.
PP: It's invaluable. I'm a visual person so I remember things better if I write them down.
I don't know about you but as soon as "Translator for Peter Papapetrou" pops up on linkedin, I'm so applying for that job! Big thanks to Peter for his time and continued support. We think his confident style is the perfect match to our "Jotter in Chic" Gold notebook. Shop it here!
I've been aware of Janette Ewen for a long time. Looking back, it's safe to say she popped up on my radar when she first started doing daytime television appearances as a style expert, and I always wondered "how did this girl get inside my head and know how to articulate my style so perfectly?!" Since then, I've been girl-crushing her to the max via her vibrant instagram account. I'm obsessed with her West Coast/Palm Springs/Vintage meets Modern/eclectic style. There's something old-Hollywood about the way Janette works and carries herself, yet at the same time she's totally in the moment and right on trend, which I so admire.
For a long time I've been wondering about Janette's design process and how she collects all of her thoughts? Who knew the answer would be so simple as having a great notebook (as if I couldn't like her anymore?!) I recently caught up with Janette to find out about her noteworthy life and style secrets, enjoy!
JE: My grandmother taught me to buy less but look for quality. And take good care of your clothing and accessories... look "well heeled".
JE: If you peeked inside my closet you would find an eclectic blend of styles. From vintage kimono's to luxurious caftans... I love anything Auntie Mame would wear. That plus a lot of black for daytime, I love Balenciaga and The Row for daytime.
JE: I can't live without a great pair of sunglasses, the darker the better.
JE: I take notes everywhere, I'm ideas person so I always need a place to put them. I sketch a lot
when I fly or when I am poolside and I write from my bed when I wake up (very early) in the morning.
JE: LOTS of doodles, I like to sketch furniture and fashion. That plus list after lists after lists.
JE: Yes! Match your notebook to your outfit, match it to your fabulous life.
Admit it, now you're girl crushing on her too right? For more on Janette, visit her website, twitter, and of course her instagram! Her picture-perfect design aesthetic is the perfect compliment to our "Blogger Breakfast" gold notebook. Shop for it here!
I first became acquainted with then editor-in-chief of Flare Magazine Lisa Tant, back in June 2012 when she published a sketch I posted on twitter of her and her fabulous team. It was my first little taste of publicity and it appeared alongside her eloquent final editor's note in that role. I was so grateful to her then for that small act of kindness. Years later we reconnected when she began working for Holt Renfrew and what began as a small admiration from afar quickly blossomed into one of my most cherished professional relationships and friendships. I have so much respect for Lisa and everything she does, not to mention an envious eye for her fabulous wardrobe!
I passed along a few questions recently to get Lisa's take on the importance of taking notes in style and she also dished out a little fashion advice for us too! If you want to soak up even more of her fashion and lifestyle wisdom check out her amazing website and make sure to follow her on instagram and twitter!
LT: Wheather it's about my career or my style, "Be Yourself" is a golden piece of advice. I can only feel really confident when I am totally being true to myself. It's when one's personality really shines.
LT: Surprisingly, not a lot of black! I love colour, pattern and shine so you'll find a sweet little collection of super chic Dries van Noten toppers, Sacai lace and Greta Constantine evening wear.
LT: A very well worn soft denim jacket from the Gap. I layer it under everything from my Dries toppers and over my workout gear.
LT: Everywhere! I scribble my ideas when I'm on a plane, the subway and by my bed in the middle of the night.
LT: It's essential! I'm a storyteller so I'm always jotting down ideas or phrases that intrigue me.
LT: Yes please ... especially when it's gold!
